Event Ticketing Platforms in India: What to Actually Compare

Why every marketing page looks the same

Nearly every event ticketing platform's homepage says some version of "sell tickets, manage registrations, all in one place" — which makes them genuinely hard to compare at a glance. The real differences show up in specifics that rarely make it above the fold: how fees are structured, whether tax handling is automatic or your own responsibility, and what actually happens at the door on event day.

The fee model

Two structurally different approaches show up across the market: a flat monthly or annual subscription regardless of how many events you run, versus a pay-per-event model where cost only applies when you actually publish something. Which is cheaper depends entirely on your volume — an organizer running events constantly may come out ahead on a subscription, while someone running events occasionally usually pays less overall on a pay-per-event structure. Worth working out your actual expected volume before comparing sticker prices.

GST handling

This is one of the most consequential differences and one of the least advertised. Some platforms calculate GST on your ticket pricing automatically, based on the applicable rate; others leave it entirely to the organizer to work out and add manually. If you're GST registered, ask directly whether the rate calculation is automatic or your own responsibility — getting this wrong isn't a platform problem you can blame later, it's your own tax filing.

For transparency on our own side: on SPION, the ticket price you enter is the final price the buyer pays, so if you're GST-registered you build your GST into that price and handle it in your own filings. SPION applies GST only to its own fees.

Check-in and attendance

Ask specifically whether QR check-in works offline, since venue connectivity failing during peak arrival is one of the most common real-world event-day problems. Also worth asking: is there a manual check-in fallback, and does the attendance dashboard update in real time, or only after the fact? These are the details that separate "we support QR codes" as a marketing bullet from a check-in system that actually holds up under a real crowd.

Payout timing and transparency

Ask when ticket revenue actually becomes available to withdraw (immediately, after the event, on a fixed schedule) and what the platform's commission or service fee actually is as a percentage — not just what buyers are charged at checkout, but what's deducted from what you receive. A platform that's vague about this in its own documentation is worth a direct question before you commit an event to it.

Support, realistically

The honest test isn't "do they have a support page" — it's what happens when something goes wrong 48 hours before your event. Response time and whether a human is reachable (not just a chatbot) matters far more in that moment than any feature comparison chart.

The actual checklist

  • Pay-per-event or subscription — and which actually costs less at your real volume?
  • Is GST calculated automatically, or is that on you?
  • Does QR check-in work offline, with a manual fallback?
  • When does revenue become available to withdraw, and what's actually deducted?
  • Is a custom domain available, and at what cost?
  • What does support actually look like close to your event date?

Check the fee model and the check-in tooling before you commit

SPION is pay-per-event and includes QR check-in on every plan — no separate add-on for the basics.
